Summary. In the theoretical-methodological approach of Individual Psychology, the concept of fiction is strictly related to the concepts of apperceptive schema and Life Style. In psychotherapy, transference takes the form of the set of the intrapsychic and relational dynamisms that the patient ‘transfers’ to the therapist, according to the ‘simple’ principle that one can only transfer his/her own Life Style. When making the therapeutic process, the moment when the patient can understand the “as if” dimension of the transference is really important; indeed, it is precisely in this aspect that the therapeutic power to offer transformative opportunities is hidden.
