Translation by Ute Samtleben and Egidio Marasco

Summary.  In this article, still unpublished in Italy, Alfred Adler writes about the physician as an educator. It clearly shows how Adler’s doctrine has been an accomplished way of thinking from the beginning and it is also an important point of Freud’s work evolution and of his familiar and personal life.

From the primordial need to the differentiated request: from the "social sense" to "social feeling"

Summary.  Francesco Parenti and Pier Luigi Pagani have favoured, in their first works, the expression “social sense” on the locution, later become usual “social feeling”. The author wonders which are the reasons that could have induced, during the first years of the Individual Psychology in Italy, to correct the locution “social sense” into “social feeling”, reaching the conclusion that the two terms, both the original and the current, are, at the same time, right and wrong. A linguistic approach with the two terms may help us to clear up the semantic difference between “sense” and “feeling”, allowing us to make an appropriate use of them, in accordance with their meaning of use. The word “sense” indicates predisposition for feeling, realizing, perceiving impressions, referring to, mostly, facts or phenomenon of mental order. The term “feeling” refers to each affective condition of conscience, positive or negative, to each subjective motion of the nature which gives our feelings, representations and ideas a particular affective tonality.

Summary.  During the last years, psychiatrics, psychologists and psychotherapeutics expressed a growing interest in the use of valuation of instruments which are standardized, rating scales, questionnaires with multiple choice, particular handbooks of therapy and guide lines, as more and more assuming a lecture of individual used by this time by medicine and close to the theoretical paradigm of natural sciences. These ones, in fact, set getting precise measurements, repeatable data and a constant prevision of phenomena. However this bent lend itself being interpreted also as a defensive fiction to the spontaneous meeting with the mystery of the interest for the other which is present in the meeting with the other, different from ourselves. This is a fiction which risks to thwart, if not well interpreted, the success of each therapeutic “meeting”.

The supportive-expressive model: practical instrument or neurotic fiction?

Summary. The present work points to criticize the supportive-expressive model as well as the separation in it between psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. In fact, in spite of the intention to resolve it, the supportive-expressive model seems to maintain the antithetical opposition between the most important two curative factors, attachment/interaction on one hand and exploration/interpretation on the other hand. This is the basis of the distinction between psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. The strong relation among the curative factors is examined and a return to a single psychodynamic psychotherapy, consistent with the adlerian point of view, is proposed. Its characteristics are, finally, briefly exposed.

Guilt as fiction

Summary. The working hypothesis of this article is that the sense of guilt of disabled children’s parents is a fiction protecting themselves from inexpressible and unthinkable feelings and from the possibility of a new catastrophic break in their life. In fact, the sense of guilt satisfies parents’ needs of rigid stability and unalterable safety, because it paralyses creative and projectual Self and turns life time into an eternal present, without hope.

Summary.  The professional practice of orientation comes to face the growing complexity of the formative and working world with the purpose of help the members of the community to move in the range of possibilities, which have been offered with more awareness and responsibility. Currently, in particular, la growing sensibility around this topic helped us recognizing the need of extending these interventions to everyone who lives a specific moment of the Scholastic and formative life. So, together with actions which should support each individual to face crucial and normative moments, (ex. The choice of a course post formative obligation) activities of support have been experimented for boys who cannot face successfully the job that school gives them. I refer in particular to guys which are “difficult”, the ones whose rapport with the Scholastic institution is so deteriorated that it prefigures negative results. We refer to this typology of use during this job, in particular to an experience of orientation led with a group of guys at formative risk, which attend the second year of a high school in Milan.
